overview

ConXtech® delivers two innovative, yet mass customizable, structural steel building systems. Often referred to a "full-scale Erector Set", ConXtech applies technology to the building industry to deliver sustainable structures and dramatic efficiencies. Based upon the theory that a finite number of precisely manufactured connectors, components & assemblies, can be reconfigured to achieve almost any design criteria, the company employs robotics, CNC machining, and CAD tools to streamline the structural design, manufacturing, through field "assembly" processes.

The company has two discrete systems. ConXR™, is ideal for Mid to High-Rise Residential, including Mixed-Use, Hotel, Student and Senior Housing. ConXR is also well suited for industrial structures for the Petrochemical Industry. ConXL™, our new long span system, brings a systemized solution for Commercial Office, R&D, Data Center, Parking, Hospital, Educational, and Parking structures. ConX structures are inherently seismically sound, cost competitive and erected at unprecedented speed. ConXtech works with owners, developers and their design teams to integrate ConX structures into their aesthetic designs. Using state of the art technology. ConXtech then custom manufactures and delivers a moment frame/space frame structure.

ConXtech offers an array of products and services which can be mixed and matched to meet your needs. From delivering a simple structure to be erected by others, to a complete turn-key product & on-site assembly/construction services package that includes:

  • Design/Build responsibility and management of structural engineering team
  • ConXFrame™, a structural steel frame comprised of HSS columns and wide flange beams joined together by a combination of three innovative connections (gravity and moment collar). ConXFrame components include:
    • ConXColumn™ (gravity or moment)
    • ConXBeam™ (gravity or moment)
    • ConXCollar™ precisely machined steel components employing ConXtech's interlocking "collar" technology
  • ConXFloor™ - corrugated metal decking with lightweight concrete fill
  • ConXWall™ - a panelized exterior wall system (substrate over steel studs) for ConXR only
  • ConXStair™ - common area stair system with railings
  • ConXRoof ™- a standard set of roof details that allow a high quality roof to be quickly and easily installed by your roofing contractor

innovation at inception

ConXtech's systems were conceived on the premise that quality is the key to any endeavor's success. "Integrity, efficiency, and exceeding client expectations are goals that influence everything we do," says ConXtech founder Robert J. (Bob) Simmons. For 20 years Simmons has dreamed of delivering an innovative and commercially viable alternative to traditional building methods to meet the needs for the urban infill and multi-family residential markets. Subsequent to development of the ConXR system for residential markets and industrial, he has recently developed ConXL, a long span system for commercial office, hospital, and parking. His unique ability to “think outside the box” toward mass customization has lead to three innovative steel connections as well as twenty five additional patent pending breakthroughs that make the system viable from a structural, fabrication and financial standpoint.

proven engineering

Simmons has worked with some of the brightest engineering minds to refine his original concepts and test our unique connectors. The connectors are at the heart of the ConXframe system. ConXR has been subject to 17 full-scale tests at the University of Arizona's Structural Test Lab, under the direction of Dr. Robert Fleischman, Ph.D., an innovator in the field of Structural Engineering. Dr. Fleischman has performed over 50 full-scale experiments on steel connections and has designed and built two structures laboratories of his own. ConXL has been subject to testing in ConXtech's state of the art test frame, as well as full scale testing at Smith Emery in Los Angeles.

Our system has also been scrutinized by world class experts in the form of many peer review panels for various projects. Members of those panels include structural experts such as:

Ronald O. Hamburger, S.E., Principal at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc., (SGH)

Dr. Chia-Ming Uang, PhD., Professor & Chair of University of California, San Diego, Department of Structural Engineering

Douglas E. Williams, P.E., Renowned engineer, welding and metallurgical expert

These panels determined that the SMRSF steel frame qualifies as a Special Moment Resisting Frame system as defined in the 1997 Uniform Building Code, and pre-qualified ConX for use in accordance with the 2002 AISC Seismic Provisions.

precisions manufacturing

Precision manufacturing results in higher quality projects. Many experts in the manufacturing, steel and robotic welding industries said that mass customization of the ConXtech system could not be achieved because of the precise tolerances required. But today ConXtech is proud to have one of the most automated structural steel manufacturing facilities in the world.
