When the owner was introduced to ConXtech, they realized they could now economically build 8 stories - and that’s what we’re building today. On June 16, 2006, we began assembling 400+ units, more than 200 additional units than originally planned, on the same site. Mathematically it’s a huge win for the developer, but more importantly the community gets much needed quality housing.
Thomas Berkley Square, Oakland, CA (20th and San Pablo) Originally designed to be framed using bearing wall light gauge steel studs, The Bedford Group wanted to take advantage of the value of the simplicity and speed of ConX. The 4 story (above grade) parking podium was under construction when the switch to ConX was made for the residential component of the project. Architects at Holt Hinshaw embraced ConXtech and utilized exposed ConXGravity Beams at the perimeter of the building to add architectural interest. 235 Berry Street, San Francisco, CA 800 High Street, Palo Alto, CA - ConX Complete Senior Housing, 1314 Polk Street, San Francisco, CA - ConX Complete Senior Housing was a small, challenging but successful project in another extremely demanding urban San Francisco environment. The project not only came with the requirement to protect and build within a 2-story historical brick facade, but access was particularly tight. Had the developer selected conventional construction methods, traffic could have been a nightmare. Fortunately for everyone, the ConX structural steel frame took only seven days to erect, minimizing disruption to the community, and resulting what is sure to become a landmark building. 150 Powell Street, San Francisco, CA - ConX Complete What made this project remarkable is that ConXtech was brought in at the very last minute to brace the beautiful facade during renovation of this historical building. Although ConXtech had not considered temporary bracing as a core market for the frame system, the project went off without a hitch. Erected the week before Christmas '04, in the heart of San Francisco's bustling shopping district, the project proved that ConX is the ideal solution for the demanding urban environment. ConXtech not only saved the developer over 2 months of construction time, but from what we hear, also saved the developer substantial dollars had they selected an alternate bracing method. Assembly began in Late April 2004 and three structures totaling over 210,000 sf. were erected by November of that year. This project, ConXtech's first, was a replacement of wood structures that burned down in what was the largest fire in San Jose's history. In August of 2002, approximately five acres of 3-story wood frame structures, atop 4 levels of parking and retail were destroyed. ConXtech founder, Robert J. (Bob) Simmons was tapped to replace what had burned with the ConX system which was still in development. ConXtech replaced seven 3-story wood framed buildings, with three 4-story ConX buildings, netting the same number of units but re-capturing enough space to add a pool and a clubhouse to the development. |
